Spring Wings Mission Statement

Twelfth Annual

Spring Wings Bird Festival, Fallon, Nevada

May 8-10, 2009

The Spring Wings Bird Festival coincides with International Migratory Bird Day and the height of spring migration in the Lahontan Valley wetlands. These internationally recognized wetlands are temporary home to over 260 species of birds, including thousands of White-faced ibis, Long-billed dowitcher, American white pelicans, Black-necked stilts, American avocets, and many other waterfowl and waterbirds. During the 2008 festival, a respectable 147 different species were logged - not a festival record, but a nice, tidy sum nonetheless.

Our 2008 keynote speakers Scott Weidensaul and Al Batt, performed to rave reviews.

Photographer, Mike Sevon, has a great collection of Spring Wings photos. Take a look at his website to view or purchase photographs. Mike Sevon Photography.

Next year's event will again occur in Oats Park. We feel the outdoor portion lends a more festive feel to the activities and vendors booths as well as provide plenty of space for new activities and even performances by local talent that we've not been able to accomodate in the past. Our presentations will be held in the beautiful Barkley Theater - and our Friday and Saturday Keynotes will be staged there as well. Prepare for some wonderful new changes for this upcoming event.

We will have booths available for nature-related products and artwork, so vendors, if you are interested, please contact us early to guarantee your spot! Artists and vendors take a look for more information. We would also like to invite any food vendors to come and set up at the park. Please contact Janet Schmidt for more details.

Want to get even more involved? Spring Wings is also a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting conservation through education and awareness of the natural resources available in the Lahontan Valley. Join Spring Wings and play an active part in conservation in Nevada. Contact info@springwings.org for additional information.

Sponsors - not sure how to help out? Participate in our 'Sponsor-a-van' program.

Pre-registration is required for many of the events, so you'll need to register as early as possible in order to insure your spot on your favorite tour. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to access the brochure, schedule, and registration files. Adobe Reader can be downloaded free of charge by accessing the Adobe website.

In the interest of conservation we are developing an internet mailing list, so we can notify you as soon as the information is posted to the website - this saves paper, time, manpower, and $$$$$. If you wish to be notified when the online brochure and registration form are posted to the website, please contact the event coordinator by any of the methods provided below. In these days of spam filters, please include "Spring Wings" in the subject line of your message to make sure we get your request. We've left the 2008 brochure and schedule online so you can view the kinds of activities that we offer.
