The Spring Wings Bird Festival coincides with International Migratory Bird Day and the height of spring migration in the Lahontan Valley wetlands.

These internationally recognized wetlands are temporary home to over 260 species of birds, including thousands of White-faced ibis, Long-billed dowitcher, American white pelicans, Black-necked stilts, American avocets, and many other waterfowl and waterbirds. During the 2009 festival, a respectable 147 different species were logged - not a festival record, but a nice, tidy sum nonetheless.
Our 2010 keynote speaker for Friday, May 14th, is Ted Floyd. Ted Floyd is the Editor of Birding, the flagship publication of the American Birding Association. He has published widely on birds and ecological topics. Ted is a frequent speaker at birding festivals and ornithological meetings and has led birding trips/workshops throughout North America.

Saturday night's event, May 15th, will be a special Improv Night at the beautiful Barkley Theatre, also in Oats Park. Chicago City Limits, New York City's legendary improv comedy group, has thrilled audiences of all ages for nearly thirty years with their unique style of improv comedy. Their critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway show, award-winning National Touring Company and top-notch improv Training Center have made Chicago City Limits a New York City landmark. (May not be appropriate for younger audiences.)

Photographer, Larry Neel, has provided the nature photographs on this website. Please take a look at his website at www.larryneelphoto.com.

This year's event will again occur in Oats Park. This beautiful park provides a great outdoor experience and ample room for our festival activities, vendors booths, presentations, and live music. Our Friday evening Keynote speaker will be staged in Oats Park as well. Prepare for some wonderful new changes for this upcoming event.
We will have booths available for nature-related products and artwork, so vendors, if you are interested, please contact us early to guarantee your spot! Artists and vendors interested in having a booth at this year's festival can click here for a registration form and more information. We would also like to invite any food vendors to come and set up at the park. Please contact Susan Sawyer at 775-423-5128 or info@springwings.org for more details.
